Cocktail of cultures and religions in Santa Cruz, Sevilla

At first glance, Santa Cruz is a charming district with narrow streets, colourful houses, little shops with hand made products and it provides visitors the feeling that time stood still for a few centuries. You wonder if you are still in this large Spanish metro pole called Sevilla. We were very careful not to get lost here because these allays are a true maze.

For more than a thousand years this area was predominantly a Jewish community. There are still a few synagogues today and Santa Cruz is known as the Jewish quarter although many people who lived here were chased away or killed during the 14th century.

We found here a mix of cultures and religions: churches, synagogues, mosques and a palace partially in western and Islam architecture. A district worth a visit with as main attractions, the cathedral of Sevilla and Alcazar palace.
